INTRODUCTION

When it comes to God’s work, He uses both great and small, influential and uninfluential, rich and poor, the prominent and the obscure. In fact, God delights in using the small, the uninfluential, the poor and the obscure just like most of the apostles.

Sometimes the Lord transforms them and they gain prominence in the Lord. Sometimes the Lord allows them to remain obscure – – a testimony that God does NOT NEED SUPERSTARS. He can choose obscure people and let them remain as such but like LEAVEN work their influence slowly and unnoticed in the environment that they live in, until the entire place is transformed by God’s holiness and righteousness.

Today, we will be studying 3 who remained almost anonymous but who definitely made a mark during their time.

BODY SERMON

TEXT: Matthew 10:3-4

I. JAMES, the son of Alphaeus

II. Thaddaeus, otherwise known as Lebbaeus or Judas [not Iscariot] – Luke 6: 16 & Acts 1: 13

III. Simon the zealot (Greek is ζηλωτής / “zelotes”)

CONCLUSION

God can take you from the BACKGROUND and make you PROMINENT like Peter and Paul or he can just allow you to remain in the background. But that’s not the issue.

The issue is our USEFULNESS for God, whatever it may be.
