INTRODUCTION

In our previous sermon, we dealt with at length, Asaph’s conundrum with the wicked’s prosperity. Somehow his spiritual eyes were dimmed by the seeming irreconcilable realities he saw and the way He understood God. But that is about to change in the second part of this Psalm which we will be tackling today.

What is so beautiful in this Psalm is the radical shift. In (vs 2–14) Asaph is saying, “Woe is me!” but in (vs 21–26), he now says “Wow is me!”What changed? That is what we are about to find out in Part Two of this sermon series. Let’s review our 3 main points.

BODY SERMON

TEXT: Psalm 73

I.THE UNCHANGEABLE TRUTH OF GOD’S COVENANT RELATIONSHIP (v. 1)

II.ASAPH’S ENIGMA OF THE WICKED’S PROSPERITY (vv. 2 – 16)

1.Asaph’s Personal Struggle (We stopped here)
2.Asaph’s Specific Failures: vv. 13 – 16 (We continue here)

III.Asaph’s Realizations: vv. 17 – 28

CONCLUSION

A very powerful lesson is learned here and that is in the conundrums and enigmas of life, we must not lose our faith. Instead, we are to bring ourselves into the “sanctuary of God” and there we will find wisdom and strength.

When that happens, instead of saying “woe is me”, we will be saying “wow is me” because we will see God’s goodness in our lives.
