These days are days of INSTABILITY and INSECURITY, not only for our generation, but most especially for the NEXT GENERATION. The question I would like to propound to you is: “Where do we PLANT our FEET to bring SPIRITUAL STABILITY for us during these times?
Let me begin with an ILLUSTRATION. I remember the time I was learning to ride a bicycle. My father bought me a bicycle with stabilizers. Now what are stabilizers? Stabilizers are two small wheels attached to each side of the back wheel of a bicycle to prevent it from falling over when a child is learning to ride it.
In today’s challenging times, we need STABILIZERS and Psalm 78 gives us those stabilizers.
There are THREE TAKEAWAYS I see in Psalm 78 and they are as FOLLOWS:
1. TEACH the WORD to the NEXT GENERATION
(A)RATIONALE for INSTRUCTION
2. LEARN FROM HISTORY – NEVER FORGET!
(A)The FIRST REVIEW of Israelite history moves from Egypt to the wilderness where God miraculously provides for them. (Verses 12 – 39)
(B)A SECOND REVIEW of Israel’s history of deliverance from Egypt and also in the wilderness (Verses 40 – 55). It also includes their CONQUEST and SETTLEMENT in the LAND of CANAAN.
3. RELY on GOD’S COVENANT FAITHFULNESS
1) the teaching of God’s truth,
2)learning lessons from history and
3) relying on God’s faithfulness
are the greatest stabilizing factors to spiritually build generations to come.
