INTRODUCTION

Psalm 145 was a well loved Psalm by the early church as it was sang at the midday meal. Likewise Chrysostom associated it with the eucharist. It was called the “Te Deum of the Old Testament,” “This Exquisite Psalm”, “A Magnificent Ode of Praise” and many more.

I’d like to pay tribute to this Psalm by expositing it for you that you might see the many spiritual gems that this Psalm displays. David uses this Psalm to EXTOL the many ATTRIBUTES and DESCRIPTIONS of God’s greatness.

If our worship is going to be VIBRANT, it is because we have a CLEAR VIEW of who our God is and what He has done for us. Our worship of God’s greatness must then overflow into MAKING GOD KNOWN to the ends of the earth.

BODY SERMON

TEXT: Psalm 145

There are three major points to our study today:

I.INDIVIDUAL PRAISE of GOD’S GREATNESS – vv. 1 – 2

II.CORPORATE PRAISE – vv. 4 – 20

1.Intergenerational Praise for God’s Mighty Deeds vv. 4 – 5

2.Proclamation and Praise of God’s Awesome Acts, Goodness and Righteousness vv. 6 – 7, 10

3.Specific Attributes Worthy of Praise vv. 8 – 20

III.RESOLUTION of DAVID and COMMUNITY to PROCLAIM and PRAISE God – v. 21

There is so much to dig out of this Psalm that I do not want to rush expositing it. I have decided to cut it into two parts. I will stop at our second point which is “CORPORATE PRAISE” all the way up sub-point no. 2 which is “Proclamation and Praise of God’s Awesome Acts, Goodness and Righteousness vv. 6 – 7, 10”.

CONCLUSION

When you realize the CENTRAL PURPOSE of our EXISTENCE which is WORSHIP and you see the GREATNESS of God, the only rational, natural, and spiritual response would be to PRAISE and PROCLAIM His name.
