Heart Religion

INTRODUCTION

John MacArthur states that there are THREE KINDS of RELIGION:

1. HEAD RELIGION which trusts in RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE. (Matthew 23: 1 – 3)
1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,
2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses;
3 therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for
they say things and do not do them.

2. HAND RELIGION which trusts in GOOD DEEDS (Romans 10: 3 – 4) 3For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

3. HEART RELIGION which is the ONLY TRUE RELIGION based on PURITY of the INNER MAN. It is HEART RELIGION that we will study this day so that we can have a HEART CHECK-UP lest we have a SPIRITUAL HEART ATTACK. I pray to God that we might submit ourselves to the DEAN of HEART SPECIALISTS, Jesus Christ.

I certainly hope that this sermon has not caused you a HEART ATTACK. If you feel a bit of a HEART ACHE, know that God’s heart hurts even more with an impure heart. Let us pray the prayer of the Psalmist: “Change my heart O God.”
