INTRODUCTION
Man since time immemorial has always taken the proverbial short cut. We can observe that man has the tendency to take the PATH of LEAST RESISTANCE because he wants to avoid inconvenience and discomfort.
It doesn’t matter to him if such paths involve illegal, immoral and wicked compromises for as long as it is an easy way or the path of least resistance. What is important to him is instant gratification for his lust and greed. The ironical thing is that some people do not even see the evil of their ways.
BODY SERMON
Psalm one is known as the gateway psalm and is an appropriate title as it is an introduction to how we can live wisely. This Psalm teaches us the GATEWAY to God’s BLESSING. The psalmist breaks it down neatly for us to ponder on:
I. How the Righteous Look Like (vv. 1 – 3)
A) The Righteous Man Avoids Evil Company and Counsel (v. 1)
B) The Righteous Man Delights in Scriptures (v. 2)
C) The Righteous Man Bears Fruit and Prospers (v. 3)
II. How the Wicked Look Like (vv. 4 – 5)
A) The Wicked Man Does Not Last (v. 4)
B) The Wicked Man Will Be Judged and Cast Off (v.5)
III.The Fate of the Righteous and the Wicked (v.6)
CONCLUSION
Charles Haddon Spurgeon said: “The righteous carves his name upon the rock, but the wicked writes his remembrance in the wind. The righteous man plows furrows of earth and sows, and has a harvest here, which shall never be fully reaped until he enters the enjoyments of eternity.
But as for the wicked, he plows the sea, and though there may seem to be a shining trail behind his keel, yet the waves shall pass over it, and the place that knew him shall know him no more forever.”
