INTRODUCTION

As I had been saying all along, every narrative has a BIG PICTURE and a SMALL PICTURE – a story within a story.

The BIG PICTURE is that Matthew is laying out the qualifications of Jesus as the PROMISED Davidic King, Messiah and Savior of the world. Chapters 8 & 9 gives us narratives of Jesus’ POWER QUALIFICATION.

In our previous sermon, we saw Jesus’ power over DEFILEMENT as He cleansed a leper. HEALING is part of the Messianic credential. In today’s narrative, we see Jesus’ POWER over DISTANCE and that is still part of the big picture story.

Now what’s the story within the story? The other story is that this gives us a picture of Jesus’ FUTURE GLOBAL ministry through the CHURCH. Now, let’s have a look at our outline

CONCLUSION

Once again, the BIG PICTURE is that Jesus showed His qualification as Messiah and King as He has POWER over distance.

The story within a story is that this narrative tells us that eventually Gentiles will become part of the kingdom because of their FAITH
