INTRODUCTION

The word “INCARNATION” is a term used by theologians which speaks of the central doctrine that God became flesh. More specifically it teaches that God in the person of Jesus, the Son of God took on human flesh.

The most basic question in relation to this subject matter is why does this need to happen? There are TWO BASIC REASONS for that:

1. To fulfill God’s promise to David that He would have a descendant after him who will reign and have an everlasting kingdom.

2 Sam 7:12-13

“When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

2. To bring salvation to mankind. Only a spotless and sinless Savior qualifies and only Jesus, the Son of God qualifies.

TEXT: Matthew 1: 18 – 25

The realization of the incarnation became quite complicated for both Joseph and Mary and its narrative is the kind of stuff that creates an INTRIGUING HUMAN DRAMA and that is what we will be getting into today. Let me present to you a little outline:

I. Mary’s Dilemma and Joseph’s Confusion with the Incarnation vv. 18 – 19

II. The Angel’s Explanation and the Purpose and Confirmation of the Incarnation vv. 20 – 23

III. Joseph’s Submission to the Incarnation – vv. 24 – 25

GENERAL BACKGROUND:
The stage was set and we discover some details in the Gospel of Luke. Mary was informed by the angel Gabriel that she would be the Mother of the Messiah. The Holy Spirit had implanted the “SEED” of the Messiah in Mary’s womb. John the Baptist, the forerunner of the Messiah was about to be born

CONCLUSION

Because of this angel’s revelation to Joseph, there was NOW CREDIBILITY to Mary’s incredible story of her VIRGIN BIRTH.

In this we see, that when God calls us to do something, He will in His providence move to fulfill His purposes and deliver us from our problems. What an awesome God we serve.
