Recovering from Spiritual Blunder (Psalm 137)

Carmelo Caparros
Nov 16, 2020

INTRODUCTION

There is a saying that goes that “we are wiser in hindsight”, which means that LIFE has taught us some LESSONS from our failures and blunders.

BODY SERMON

This is what we can glean from the passage on hand.
There are three points to our study today:

I. Regretting our Sins vv. 1 – 4
1. The Pain of Discipline
2. The Song of Sorrow

II.Recalibrating our Spiritual Bearings vv. 5 – 6

III.Retribution on the Enemies of God’s People vv. 7 – 9

CONCLUSION

We all do make blunders in our lives. What is important is that we rise from where we have fallen. If there were people who oppressed us during our time of discipline, they will be chastised by God as well.

God is NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS and all of us are subject to His sovereign rule and must submit to Him, lest we suffer the same fate as the Psalmist. We do not have to be wiser in hindsight; we can be wise HERE and NOW by simply obeying God’s word.
