1 Peter 5: 5 states: “…. clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” This in summary is the powerful lesson of Habakkuk 2: 5 – 8. Babylon’s prideful stench was reaching the nostrils of God and they didn’t know that they were walking the road leading to disaster.

Here’s a brief outline of the passage:
TEXT: Habakkuk 2: 5 – 8

I. THE APPETITE OF PRIDE – verse 5
(a)Pride’s analogy with wine
(b)Effects of pride
1. Restlessness
2. Greed
3. Discontent
4. Acquisition
II. THE TAUNT OF THE HUMILIATED -vv. 6 – 7
(a)The SLAP in the FACE of the PROUD
(b)The MISERY of the PROUD THIEF
(c)The PLUNDER of the PROUD
III.THE PAYBACK ON THE PROUD – v. 8
(a)The SIN OF LOOTING
(b)The SIN of BLOODSHED and VIOLENCE

This passage is a STRONG WARNING to the PROUD and indirectly a POWERFUL ENCOURAGEMENT to the HUMBLE. May we all be HUMBLE and NOT PROUD this 2019, so that God may EXALT us!

If there is one thing this passage is teaching, it is that it is a FEARFUL THING TO FALL INTO THE HANDS OF THE LIVING GOD, when caught in sinful PRIDE.
